Complete Your 60 Hours of Service-Learning for Seattle Public Schools

Meaningful Projects to Meet Your Graduation Requirement

Flexible, in-person, remote, and self-paced opportunities to earn your required service-learning hours!

Are you a Seattle Public Schools high school student working toward graduation? As you know, the district requires 60 hours of service-learning to earn your diploma. This isn’t just about volunteering—it’s about connecting classroom learning with real-world community service.

The Jackson Copeland Foundation offers meaningful, structured projects that help you accrue these hours through impactful Service Learning Projects that fit your schedule.

How Our Projects Help You Graduate

We understand that finding 60 hours of meaningful work can be challenging. Our projects are designed to meet the district’s standards for high-quality service learning:

  • Structured Hours: We guide you through the complete cycle—Preparation, Action, and Reflection—ensuring every hour you spend counts toward your goal.
  • Remote & Flexible: Much of the work (planning, organizing, marketing) can be done from home or school, allowing you to earn hours on your own timeline.
  • Real Impact: Instead of busy work, you will be addressing critical issues like public health and healthcare equity.

Meeting Seattle Public Schools Requirements

To ensure your hours are accepted for graduation, your service must include three essential components: Preparation, Action, and Reflection.

1. Preparation (Planning & Learning)

Before you act, you must learn. We provide the educational resources and planning templates you need to understand the issues (like leukemia and blood shortages) and organize your project. This planning time counts toward your 60 hours.

2. Action (The Service)

This is where you make a difference. Whether you are hosting a drive, running a campaign, or fundraising, you are actively serving your community. Our remote and hybrid options make it easy to take action safely and effectively.

3. Reflection (Thinking Back)

SPS requires you to reflect on your service. We provide structured reflection questions and prompts after your project is complete, helping you articulate what you learned and how you grew, ready for submission to your counselor or The Source.

Projects to Earn Your Hours

We offer diverse ways to earn your 60 hours, whether you need a major project to cover them all or a smaller one to finish up.

1. Organizing Blood Drives (Community Health)

The Need: Blood shortages are a constant threat to cancer patients.
The Project: By organizing and hosting a drive, you manage a complex event. This covers logistics, marketing, and community outreach, providing a significant number of service hours.
